One of the most effective ways to create transformative moments is through play--interactive, face-to-face, reciprocal, cooperative interactions that rely on movement, rhythm, touch, a prosodic voice, and eye contact. People learn to regulate, connect and share with others through play. That is easily observed in children, but this continues throughout the life cycle. We will look at three different play-based programs for traumatised children. When we work with trauma and violence we meet contemporary reincarnations of Macbeth, Othello, Richard Ill, who show us how violence is rooted in overwhelming shame and humiliation that they tried to bring to an end except by destroying the world around them. We will also experience what embodied cognition feels and looks like; how theatre can be applied to improve mental and social health, as well as executive functioning- in high school students, juvenile delinquents, violent prisoners and traumatized veterans. In this context, Shakespeare's plays have proven to be among the most insightful sources for understanding human nature and human psychology.
This online program is worth 3.5 hours CPD.
