Description

When the children you work with don’t show progress despite your best efforts, it’s time for a course correction that considers what our field too often misses: how humans actually regulate their emotions and behaviors. In this session, you’ll learn how to maximize treatment outcomes for children and teens by factoring in a client’s physiological state, or the body’s autonomic platform, in all behavioral expressions and at every developmental stage. You’ll explore:

  • How to measure neuroception and the internal state of a child and parent (without fancy gadgets)
  • How to measure a child’s social and emotional developmental processes to determine the best point of entry and where to focus clinical work
  • Integrating individual differences in parents and children in therapy
  • Why we need to shift away from individual child psychotherapy to dyadic work with caregivers
